LinkedIn video specs

Published 28 September 2026. Every figure checked against LinkedIn Help on 28 September 2026; LinkedIn's pages don't always agree with each other, and we've said where.

Short answer: for a LinkedIn post, use MP4 at 4:5 (1080 × 1350) or 16:9 (1920 × 1080). Personal posts can run from 3 seconds to 15 minutes and Company Page posts to 10 minutes, up to 5 GB, at aspect ratios from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1. Video ads can run from 3 seconds to 30 minutes, but LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds; files are MP4, up to 500 MB, with captions as an SRT file.

Posts from a person and from a Page

LinkedIn has two help pages for organic video, and they differ. The page on sharing video from your own profile gives a maximum of 15 minutes, a minimum of 3 seconds from a computer (2 seconds from the mobile app), files from 75 KB to 5 GB, resolutions from 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304, aspect ratios from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 and frame rates from 10 to 60 fps. The page for Company Pages and Career Pages gives the same limits except the length, which tops out at 10 minutes.

So which shape should you pick? Within that wide range, we'd use 4:5 for a feed post, because it takes up more of a phone screen than 16:9 and still sits comfortably on a computer.

Video ads

LinkedIn's video ad specs are stricter. Ads come in four shapes: 16:9 (640 × 360 to 1920 × 1080), 1:1 (360 × 360 to 1920 × 1920), 4:5 (360 × 450 to 1080 × 1350) and 9:16 (360 × 640 to 1080 × 1920). They can run from 3 seconds to 30 minutes, but LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds so an ad qualifies for every placement; in-stream video ads can be up to 90 seconds. Files must be MP4 with H.264 or VP8 video and AAC or MPEG-4 audio, between 75 KB and 500 MB, uploaded directly to LinkedIn from a computer (not linked from YouTube or Vimeo). Videos under 30 seconds loop until there's been at least 30 seconds of playback.

Safe zones

The help page for personal posts says to keep the top, bottom and sides of the video free of key elements, text and logos, so LinkedIn's interface doesn't overlap them. It doesn't give a size. The Page and ads pages don't mention safe zones at all. A margin of about 5% on every side is a sensible habit; if you post a 9:16 video, treat it like a Reel and keep words out of the bottom third.

Captions and sound

For ads, captions must be an SRT file containing text only; LinkedIn doesn't support custom formatting such as font colours. If people are watching at work, the sound may well be off, so put the key words on screen as well.

Where the official pages disagree

How Launch Video Maker's formats map to LinkedIn

Our feed format is 4:5 at 1080 × 1350, which is exactly LinkedIn's maximum for 4:5 ads, and our 16:9 format is 1920 × 1080, the maximum for 16:9 ads. Both are exported as MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) at 30 frames per second, inside the organic 10 to 60 fps range. For ads, note the frame-rate wording above: our files are exactly 30 fps. Our 15 and 30-second lengths match LinkedIn's recommended length for ads, and the files are well under 500 MB. In both formats, essential words are kept 54 pixels (4:5) or 96 and 54 pixels (16:9) in from the edges.

The Bundle (£49) makes the 4:5 and 16:9 cuts together with a 9:16 one. A single format is the Reel, £29.

Questions

How long can a LinkedIn video be?
Up to 15 minutes for a post from your own profile and 10 minutes for a Company Page post, with a 3-second minimum. Video ads can run from 3 seconds to 30 minutes, and LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds.
What aspect ratio is best for LinkedIn video?
LinkedIn accepts 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 for organic posts and 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16 for ads. 4:5 at 1080 × 1350 fills more of a phone screen and is the largest 4:5 size LinkedIn ads accept.
What is the maximum file size for LinkedIn video?
5 GB for organic posts and 500 MB for video ads, with a 75 KB minimum for both.
Can I add captions to a LinkedIn video ad?
Yes, as an SRT file. LinkedIn says to include only text, because custom formatting isn't supported.
