Short answer: Canva is a design tool you drive yourself. You pick a template, swap in your words and images and edit the timeline, and the free plan already exports 1080p video. If you enjoy designing, already pay for Canva Pro, or want the same tool for your posts, slides and flyers, it's the better choice. Launch Video Maker does the making for you: we read your website, you approve the facts, and we write, animate and score the reel, for £9 to £49 a video.

What Canva gives you
Canva is a general design tool, and video is one of the things it does. The free plan includes, in Canva's words, more than 1.6 million templates and 4.7 million photos, videos, graphics and audio; Pro raises that to more than 3.6 million templates, including premium ones, and more than 141 million premium items, with five brand kits. Canva's help centre says free accounts can download MP4 video up to 30 minutes long at up to 1920 × 1080, and Pro, Teams, nonprofit and education accounts up to two hours at up to 3840 × 2160.
Premium elements show a watermark on the free plan until you buy them or upgrade. Designs made only from free elements aren't described as watermarked.
What you'd do yourself
With a template, the design is a starting point and the rest is up to you. You decide what to say, rewrite the words, find screenshots and cut them to fit, choose the music, time the scenes, and make a second version if you need another shape. For people who enjoy it, that's the fun part. For people who don't, it's the part that never gets finished.
Where Canva is the better choice
- You want full control. Every frame is yours to change, as many times as you like.
- You already pay for Pro. Then a video costs you only time.
- You need lots of video. Weekly social clips add up; a subscription suits volume.
- You want one tool for everything. The same brand kit can drive your slides, posts and printed flyers.
- Your video needs photos or footage. Canva has stock libraries; we work from your own site's words, logo and screenshots.
Where Launch Video Maker is the better choice
- You'd rather not design it. We write the reel, animate it and check it for clipped or overlapping text before you see it.
- You want the facts right. We list what could go on screen from your site, with the exact words and the page each came from, and only facts you approve are shown.
- You want motion design rather than a slideshow. Each reel is written in one visual look; see the looks, each with a real reel you can start from.
- You need several shapes. The Bundle (£49) makes 16:9, 9:16 and 4:5 versions, each laid out for its shape.
- The music is for ads. Ours is generated for your video, so there's no track licence to check.

Questions
- Can you make a launch video in Canva for free?

- Can I use Canva music in adverts?
- Canva's Content License Agreement says Pro Music is fine in online ads but can't be used in traditional paid media such as TV, cinema, radio, podcasts and billboards. Popular Music is covered by a separate licence.
- How is Launch Video Maker different from a Canva template?
- We make the video for you. We read your website, you approve the facts we'd put on screen, and we write and animate a motion reel with generated music, for £9 to £49. A Canva template is a design you edit yourself.
